D2 recruiting D2 level Topic

So I recently decided I would try and exclusively recruit at my actual level. You can eliminate a lot of the competition and sign guys during phase one of recruiting. Has anyone else decided to try this approach? Not including Juco’s. I know some people have taken to the recruiting Juco’s approach, but this is exclusively signing 4 year players at your level.

Not exclusively, but you bet I scout and occasionally recruit local D2 projected players.

He is the exception, not the norm, of course. And I did have to make promises to fend off a D3. I didn’t mind.

He grew 94 points this year, and is currently green LP and PER, blue ATH, SPD, DEF, BH, DUR, black in REB, PAS, STA. His SB did turn orange this season.

That guy is a monster; I am very high on three more guys over at SD. I am going to cut some of my guys who were big reaches last season.

My Gettysburg team is and has always been entirely D3 team players. They are competitive but not great.

The one thing I learned is that it's important to have a large scouting budget, there are guys you want but they are hard to find.

I couldn’t really explore as far this season. I only have two openings, signed two guys before recruiting session one ended, but I do plan on cutting a few guys in order to get a few more targets. I always assumed that the D2 level players were generally crap, but I was wrong. I feel like at D3 it would be much tougher to find those kind of players.

I use this trick alot to scout. FSS internationals first and only. Then assistant scout them, it's the cheapest way to scout a group of players (d2 internationals) people don't normally recruit.

I do that too for internationals, but I keep wasting half the asst coach search on those pesky top 200 overall that I have no chance of getting

You have to do it for D2 and D3 only.

Right but since the top 200 are always level 1 before any effort on your part, when you tell your asst to scout already discovered players only it always includes those guys too.

You can have your assistant ignore all D1 players and only scout D2 and/or D3 players. So, for example, if you FSS D2 internationals and then have the assistant further scout only D2 players, the only players he will be scouting are the D2 internationals.

I'm currently finding out that D2 players aren't all crap as well. My first season recruiting D2 players at a D2 school. Only 1 opening. I plan to cut some sim players, come RS2. I figured I'd have an easier time unlocking guys at D2 level during RS1 since i only have 40 AP (and now 20 AP since I've signed a guy). I've found an entire starting 5 that I'm chasing. Some of them aren't great now. And I'll probably get slaughtered next season. But for a rebuild, these guys aren't bad, and have nice potentials. The guy i signed was a VERY nice C for the zone D that i plan to run.

And this is an EXCELLENT tip! This is why I'm glad i read the forums. I've never considered this
