D1 Resume Question. Cherry Picking? Topic

In regards to qualifying for D1 jobs.

I'm probably about 2-3 seasons away from qualifying for the level of jobs I want. That's a guess but for this example lets assume that I'll be in D2 for two more years.

I'm losing 7 seniors are Tarleton St, the next two years there will be "down" years, probably 1st round tourney at best.

Would it be better for me to stay and show "loyalty" to a program and have two average years there.
Or, cherry pick a D2 school that has a chance to make a run in the tourney for the next two years?

Thoughts?

Thanks guys

I could be wrong, but think if you go to another D-2 school, it's like starting over again. Looks like you'll struggle for the next couple of years if you stayed there.

If you think you can continue to at least make the NT, I would stick it out where you’re at. Consistent NT appearances are key to opening up your D1 options.

What type of D1 job are you hoping to grab?

Leave. Loyalty goes back up quickly.

I'm looking at some schools that are D+ right now, with B- baseline.

They say "they're looking for a coach with more experience"

You will likely get some more open to you when you hit 150 total wins. even better if you hit that while making the NT.

I'm pretty sure you need around 10-12 seasons under your belt before you can qualify for a school in the B baseline range, no matter what the current prestige is.

I think that if you move it will make it take longer to get to D1. I would be more tempted to move to the best D1 job you can get, then stay there until you get the D1 job you are looking for. I think that is the easier path.

If you qualify for a better D2 School take it. A school with better prestige and making the NT and hopefully winning a couple rounds would be a help to your resume. The other alternative of staying put has merit, but depends totally on how your resume LOOKS NOW. Two mediocre years or two down years does nothing for a D1 resume.

Don't consider it "cherry picking". Consider it resume building.
