Minute Promise Question Topic

If you promise minutes to a player, and he continues to Foul Out of games before he can get his minutes, do you as a Coach get any "credit" for his fouling out in the form of an adjustment to his minutes?

No. He’ll still hold you to the promise you made.

Just try to teach him that he plays basketball not hockey

or give his name to the football coach - might have a home there

how about benching players in key games?
One of my teams has played 12 games so far and my freshman has played in 9 of them and he is averaging the 10 minutes I promised him. If i kept up this trend, is it possible for him to complain for not playing?

It used to be that he would only count games that he appeared in as counting toward the promise. When I first started a fairly common gaming of the system was to make a promise to a kid to get him to sign with you, play said kid in one game against a horrible Sim to get the requisite number of minutes, and then hold them off the lineup for the remainder of the season, resulting in a happy kid and minimal disruption to the ability to field the best possible lineup for the team making the promise.

Supposedly this was changed and the kid now considers all games where Health is 60+ that he is eligible for as games where he should get his minutes. Given your situation, the kid would be at approx 75% of the promise across all 12 games...which in my experience is within the realm of some kids' tolerance when it comes to satisfying promises, which might be why you've received no complaint. Or it could be that I've misunderstood or something changed and they really don't consider all games as being required to meet the promise. In which case you're totally safe here.

Game 12, and he has fouled out four times, and four fouls once and three fouls twice. I was so stupid to offer a twenty minute promise. Two of the foul outs were 12 to 13 minutes. I also had him as only a backup at SF and that was another mistake.

I will be so lucky if I get him back even close to 20 minutes. I really think he will leave me.

Gerstein? And you promised 20 minutes and no start? If true, I think you’ll be ok. Maybe start him for a while and set his fatigue to tired or getting tired. His IQ is getting up to the point where fouling out should be less common. Some guys are really picky about minutes, but if you get him up to 17 or so, chances are good that he’ll stay.
