I'm getting a fourth team soon and would like to run Fastbreak so I'll have a team with every set.

When recruiting bigs, what is a prototype big for that offense? Is it beneficial to run two PFs? Maybe even a PG, combo, SG, SF, PF? (With the SF and PF having above average rebounding). Or is that just getting carried away? Talk to me forumers.....

What defense? FB/Press or FB/anything else?

I'm not sure yet. But not zone. I'd do man or press. I'd like to switch to Fastbreak offense when i get there. But I'd prefer to keep the defense, and i will select a man or press team

Abdicating the boards completely is not a good idea, so you want to keep paying attention to rebounding and athleticism for the forwards. But speed is definitely a higher priority for FB/press than any other combo, IMO, for all positions. At the D2 level, I like to get bigs who are in the 50 range for speed (or will be by the time I need more than 12mpg from them). I’ll sacrifice some of that and play a more traditional C there if I really need the rebounding. I don’t like to think in terms of prototypes, but if I had to choose between a 80/20/80/80 guy (ath/spd/reb/def) and a 70/50/70/70, I would normally choose the latter for FB/press, unless I’m desperate for rebounding.

Ok cool. I kinda figured speed would be a factor in the FB. As inb other sets I've heard speed is irrelevant in the C. Having said that, your 70/50/70/70 guy seems to be more of a PF than a C. So is it a good idea to have 2 of those starting in an ideal FB? Or will that hurt you too bad in the rebounding department?

The best bigs I’ve had on my championship caliber D2 FB/press teams run the gamut between the two examples above (actually a little better generally, because I was assuming you were talking about D3). That’s why I don’t like thinking in terms of prototypes, you start putting players in boxes, and get too caught up in what they don’t do, instead of what they can do. Obviously, you want to try to get the best players *in your system* available to you. It might help to use the advanced weighted rating system, though I’ve never really liked them and don’t use them myself. In general, FB/press utilizes speed at all positions a little more. It’s still least important at C, as with every type. But for FB/press, it’s a little more valuable, so I would weight it a little higher than I would do for other set combos. Does that make sense?

Another thing I forgot to mention, FT shooting is more important for FB/press as well, because if you’re doing it right, you have more opportunities from the line.

Makes sense. And FT shooting is something I've ALWAYS overlooked unintentionally. And I'm aware it's more important in the FB and press

Team speed is very important in press. A weighted average is used in determining if there is a turnover early on in the possession. for fb/press I would try hard to have my average 4/5 speed be at least 30.

if you aren’t running press, I think speed is only important if you plan on your post to get significant distribution. I wouldn’t be afraid to play a 10 speed center if I knew his distro was going to be very low.
