Illinois

I mean we aren't doing AWFUL, but I feel Illinois is underperforming a little for how stocked with talent this team is. I mean we only lost 1 useful player (38 minutes) from a Final 4 team and added 2 5-star freshmen. What's wrong?

You start 2 freshmen? IQ is important.

My opinion:

1) I would dial back Chapman’s distribution. He’s a fine scorer, but he’s your also best point/distributor. I’d have his distribution about equal with Kelch, Moberly, and Moser.
2) A little unbalanced. Excellent guards, but thin in the frontcourt after Moser. I would consider dropping even farther in to a -2 defense by default.
3) Starting freshmen on a team like this, especially more than one, is always going to come with a risk of giving some games away. When I have to start freshmen, I almost always keep them at 0 distribution until they get to C+ range IQ. Your guys are obviously great, and haven’t been terribly inefficient, but I suspect if you had Smith at SF, and Brown or Polen starting in the frontcourt all year, with Heaton and Mason off the bench, your defense may have functioned a bit better.
4) I would consider running uptempo against most teams, especially now that you can pull your freshmen back to the bench.
