"Probably won't sign..." Topic

I just drafted a guy with the 9th overall pick who is projected to be one of the best hitters I've ever seen. I must have been inebriated when I did my rankings though, because I failed to realize he was a "probably won't sign..."

I have just under $10M available. He's asking for $8M, so I've made him the offer. I assume he'll reject it, and I'll secure the 10th pick in next year's draft. At that point I'll sign the rest of the draftees.

My question is this: has anyone ever had a guy who was a "probably won't sign.." actually sign? I haven't. Is it possible that he rejects the offer, then comes back a month later and says he's willing to sign?

I would appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

I've seen them come back with a second demand, but it is likely going to exceed 10M if his initial ask was 8M.

Pretty much any outcome is possible. Yes it's most likely he'll say he's thinking about it, then reject it. Next best scenario, he does as VitC says and comes back with a second ask. He can reject and you can take the Type D, or you can keep trying (save the email message) and see if he changes his mind later in the season.

Once - only once - an owner in one of my leagues drafted one of these players, and the player signed after thinking about it. Didn't even ask for more money. Was probably the best player in the whole draft. Only happened once that I know of.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Whatever the outcome I'll let you know

Keep offering every single day, by the end of the season or whatever raise your offer as high as possible if you can. If he rejects 10, see if you can find a way to go higher

You can always offer less than a prospect's demands. They always sign for a bit less than what they are asking The trick is to figure out what that number is

Like damag said, keep the email because that's the only way to get back to the offer screen if he rejects your initial offer. I've only had one "probably won't sign" guy that I was not able to sign, all the others eventually came around. My guess is there is something like a 20-25% chance a "probably won't sign" guy will accept any given offer. So you just need to hit them with enough offers. The only problem is they are the guys who take the longest to decide so you can only get in something like 4 offers before the season rolls over.

Wow, the prospect just signed the initial offer!!

Congrats, you beat the odds. The important thing to know is that there are odds!

In case anyone's interested, I just signed an "Undecided" sixth-round draft pick.

Didn't make him an offer after the draft because his demand was too far above slot, and I wanted to save the cash for a possible IFA signing. Signed all my other players.

After the regular season, I had $2.4 mil prospect left over, nothing to spend it on. It was under his demand, offered it anyway, he decided to not play baseball this season. Fine.

Still nothing to spend it on. Just for the heck of it, offered it again.

Today, middle of the LCS, the guy signs! Sure, he's not worth 2.4 mil, but I used up the cash!

I've got a guy who has declined 5 times so far. 2nd best P in draft, got him at 16 I think. Less than 20 gmes to go... Hoping he signs !!

I would post a link but i cannot find the button

Ok, so I offered my probably won't sign guy his initial demand and was met with a message about preferring to stay in college. I kept negotiations open by resuitting my offer about 7 times. Then, right before playoffs, he suddenly said he changed his mind and would sign for more. The only problem with this is I didn't have enough. I don't have enough for his new demand. Currently I am offering a tiny bit more than the original offer which maxes out my budget. In every attempt in doing this he declines in the first cycle. I have try submitting my Max budget which is about 3 million less than what he wants and it's just not working. Does anyone have an experience where a draft pick will sign for less?

Also one other question the playoffs are in full swing and we're close to getting to the world series. Am I running out of time to sign draft picks? For example can I signed all the way through to the last game of world series?

No and yes. You have to meet his new demand. You have till the end of the WS.

Is there any chance that the probably won't sign guy with the increased demand at the end of the season will sign for less? I think I have read about players signing for less in certain situations. I am running out of time though if there is one game left in the world series I will give up and just signed all the other draft picks
