The multiple timeline/alternate universe progressive

1. The inaugural draft consists of everyone drafting a season. The draft order will be determined with random.org. Only one owner can use that season. After the first season, your team advances one season (e.g. from 06-07 to 07-08). Your keepers are the players you used from your original season, and you can cut whoever you like.

2. Each season’s draft, starting with season 2, will consist of any players who were cut. You must draft a player who has minutes in the SIM in the season you will be using.

(edit: but what about other players in your season that you want to use? sure, but if you want to pick someone that wasn’t cut, it can’t be someone else’s keeper).

3. When you reach the latest season, you restart using any season no one else is using, and you progress through time until you are using the latest season in the database.

4. There can and will be the same player on multiple teams. Obviously, you cannot use two versions of the same season of the same player on the same team anyway. Again, you have to use the season after the last season you used, and since everyone will have a different season, no two teams will have the same season of a player.

probably no IR, you cannot trade value for nothing or nothing for value, there will be a fair play committee, all the usual safeguards.

that’s my sketch. any suggestions welcome.

keepers: If multiple teams cut the same player, the player is only available in the draft once.

if you restart to a season no one else will be using, you are not eligible for the draft, because you will be choosing 12 new keepers next season. you do not need to declare keepers in the keeper thread if you are restarting. again, restarting is only for teams who used the most recent season in the database, and you can only restart to a season no one else is using. You cannot restart to the season you used most recently.

trades: you can only trade for players that have minutes in the season you will be using next. if this is somehow a loophole, you cannot trade for and cut the same player in the same season. you also can’t trade a player for himself, no matter who else is included.

if you are using the last season in the database, you cannot trade until you choose your restart point. you also can’t participate in the draft because you will choose 12 new keepers, just as you did in the initial season.

Say I draft 2002 (no LeBron)
No one takes 2003
Next year I move to 2003 - can I use LeBron?

If you choose 02-03 for season 1, you can use any players from 02-03. Anyone can be cut for season 2, especially if a player doesn’t have a great season in your next season, or you want to try something different.

If someone has cut LeBron, you can draft LeBron in the draft. There is only one version of a player in each draft, so two owners can’t draft LeBron in season 2 and beyond. That said, you are not cutting a season. If LeBron has minutes in your next season and hasn’t been drafted yet (season 2 and beyond), you can draft him, regardless of who cut him.

If LeBron isn’t on a keeper list, which I find highly unlikely, you can draft LeBron regardless of whether he has been cut. Otherwise, you can’t draft LeBron in your second season.

so basically:

1) you draft a season in the inaugural draft
2) you start with 12 keepers from your initial season. in the initial season, you draft anyone you want in the Draft Center. bear in mind that you can’t trade until season 1 starts, and all twelve players you start season 1 with are your keepers.
3) each season after season 1 has a draft (two rounds of picks for everyone, plus additional rounds for additional cuts)
4) the draft is only players who were cut
5) you can draft anyone who was cut, as long as no one drafted that player before you. no seasons, just names
6) you can draft anyone who isn’t on a keeper list or hasn’t been cut
7) after the draft, add/drop period, then the season starts

I think........... it would be more interesting if each person selected a year and THEN you held a draft where only ONE version of each player was available.

I kind of like the idea of the same player on multiple teams. however, if this is how most people feel, we can do a 12 round exclusive player draft after the season draft. you could only draft a player who has a SIM season in your season, and you can only trade for and draft players who have minutes in your season, and aren’t on anyone else’s keepers from that point on.

so there’s:
option 1) my original proposal: one player on multiple teams
option 2) one player on one team, standard progressive rules apply

I think your version will not only have the same player on multiple teams, but it could also have the same 7-10 players on multiple teams.
