Does this rating do anything?

It's supposed to determine where the batter is likely to hit the ball. If you play in an unbalanced park like me this is a consideration, you want your batters to hit the ball the shortest wall.

I am not clear how it works however. Perhaps someone could tell me which of these is true about a player with a pull rating of 50:

A) he is just as likely to hit it to either field.
B) he is more likely to pull it - to exactly the same degree as an average hitter would.

I've never once looked at that rating when evaluating a player

The lower the rating, the more of a pull hitter (think Joey Gallo) a player is. The larger the number, the higher the ability to hit to more fields (think Grorge Brett/Tony Gwynn).

So in a ball park with a short right field fence, a left handed pull hitter with a ton of power could do a lot of damage, but might not get the same results on the road.

The player who can spray to all fields, hit the other way, will probably lag a little in home runs, but have more gap power, produce more consistently.

I play in Wichita in the Glavine 300 league. I targeted a lefty with pull power specifically for my park. In Wichita, lefty pull hitters with power will hit more hrs than a righty due to park factors. It is still best to just have the best players on your team, but every now and then, you can find a bargain on a player that should do well in your park.

BTW, I found the above mentioned bargain in the Glavine 300 league free agency pool. The league currently has a handful of openings. If you are interested in joining, reach out to me (tlowster) or (coach34).

Touche, Vitamin. Figured if I helped or added my two cents, maybe someone would want to join. Your point is noted.
