What is the best strategy for the sim? Topic

Never made the playoffs and only a handful of winning seasons.

Most owners don’t like telling their secrets to success, and there’s no “best” strategy. I’d recommend reading the FAQs of SLB and other pinned threads and learning about the game. Learning how it works was crucial to me, went from a guy with a .300 win% to over .500 win% and some titles.

Interesting as the NHL, NBA, and NFL ones all have advice for beginners topics.

No one ever said there wasn't... in fact it was explicitly mentioned: read the FAQ, which itself is largely a bunch of links to other threads. I'll post a direct link to it in case you're missing the pinned topics for whatever reason.

Diving into the FAQ threads and really learning/understanding how the game engine works, and then figuring out how to use that information to your advantage, will be a tremendous help.

What is the best strategy? That's a "How do I win?" type of question, and those are not generally met with great responses because it requires little effort on your part to simply be told how to win. Most owners are very willing to answer questions and share some insight, but for "How does the game work?" questions, not "How do I win?".

In very general terms, just as in the other sports, it's important to remember that SLB is not baseball. It's a statistical simulation set within the context of Major League Baseball. Winning is all about drafting your stats and adjusting your settings to give yourself the greater advantage over your opponent, while still understanding that even good teams can lose 40% or more of their games.

try a progressive

you might enjoy it more

you get to keep your guys, and if you're bad one year you get a high draft pick next year

There are no "secrets" just things people haven't figured out. If you have specific questions I don't mind sharing any of my strategies though some of it falls under the category of Opinion. The best advice is to read this forum. There's good information and intelligent discussion here, though it used to be a lot more active here.

Can DH's be used fully or just as pinch hitters?

you can play any hitter at any position

Should DH's be used fully (and at what position) is a good related question. They can be used, but you have to determine if their contribution to scoring runs for your team is worth their contribution to scoring runs for the other team (by making errors and bad plays). I haven't used them closely enough to know how much their defense hurts, compared to another D-rated player. I'm afraid to find out the hard way! I wouldn't play a DH anywhere other than 1B, unless he actually has a fielding rating at another position. Or unless my team simply had another position where all the available players are terrible.

So they can't be used like they are in the AL currently?

If you mean is there a DH in your lineup, it depends on the league.
Some use a DH and some dont.

That is an option in theme/progressive leagues - whether to have DH throughout, DH in AL only, or no DH.
