I don't use assistant often either. For D2, as soon as the season begins, I run 200 kids to my school camp. It runs 2 hours later. During that 2 hour wait, I FSS all neighboring states. That gives me a pool of 150 to 175 recruits to level 3 immediately (depending on how far I reach away, as far as state selection). And I have roughly 10k scouting budget left. I do absolutely nothing besides look at that pool of players, from then until RS1 begins to process.
That 150 to 175 pool is generally where my players come from. I do some other things with that 10k once things are up and running. But I usually end up with players I prefer, from my original pool. Short and sweet.
How does FSS neighboring states get you up to level 3 immediately? Something isn’t adding up here..
He’s referring to the private camp revealing 2 levels, I think, and drawing from a 500 mile radius. So once that’s done, you have most of those guys at level 3 (local top 100 players who came to your camp at level 4, if applicable).
For me, the big reason I no longer use camps, and go strictly FSS and assistant, is that I want control over the geography of my pool. If I get 200 guys in my local 500m radius to level 3, I have very little budget room to scout nationally or internationally. So I’m abdicating the guys who want to play far away who are sometimes better than the guys who prefer to stay local.
