Wow, getting to the playoffs in your first three seasons is impressive!

Sounds like bad luck to me. We've all been there at one point or another. The only way to really optimize your roster for the playoffs is to have relievers who can double as spot-starters in the playoffs and have solid stats. Guys like 1988 Bob Milacki are a good bet to do this. To identify them, you can look at their IP/G stat in the Draft Center when building your team.

With that said, they are by no means a guarantee. The playoffs can be more luck-based than the regular season since the sample size, especially in an LDS matchup, is so small. Just last week I had a 114 win team lose in the playoffs to a team that went 80-82. It happens!

I think this is somebody’s 2nd account, judging by the name. 08 Addie Joss? Reminds me of that Bob Caruthers guy back in the day.

Why do you think it is terrible luck?
Dont forget, the teams you are playing against are also division winners(and a wild card).
There are no last place teams that you can beat up on.

You could be right, since he joined in 2012 but now has teams going, but either way the advice is the same.

My dad used to be pretty active on WIS, a short while ago, and I made an account as he was giving it up, but I completely forgot about this account (and about WIS in general) until a few months ago. Thanks for answering my question. I figured it was mostly bad luck.

And yeah, he has always been fascinated by Bob Caruthers haha

Good teams get upset in the playoffs all the time, both in WIS and in MLB.

That said, I think two additional things are worth noting:
1.) In WIS, it is not uncommon for a team's final W-L record to not be a good indication of its overall quality. For example, I routinely make it to the postseason in OL's with teams with 85-90 wins (and often these teams give up more runs than they score, sometimes by a substantial margin). Because I routinely rest players in interleague games, and once I think I've got a postseason berth locked up I rest players aggressively. My teams often have 20+ games started by mopup pitchers and scrub lineups. The point is their real talent level is probably more like a 100 or 105 in team, not 88-74.
2.) In real MLB you often see managers use strategies and tactics in the postseason, that they would never or rarely use in the regular season (think about the number of starters used in relief in key moments in the 2018 postseason). This is analogous to the Milacki strategy that ozomatli mentioned above. Something to think about...in WIS are there any other unique strategies that might be worth considering for the postseason? Are there any settings that you might want to change in the postseason? Without giving away too much, in my opinion the answer to both of these questions is a resounding yes.

I recently had a 113 win team, and I got to play the team I all but swept in the regular season, in the first round. (Think I went 13-1 against him). So of course he sweeps me. CURSE YOU YBJSPORTS!
