This D1 team has 7 walk-ons.

Isn’t the limit 3?

Sim AI teams recruit to their prestige, so it’s a function of a higher prestige team going sim and getting beaten for its targets, and not sliding down often or fast enough to get lower tier recruits.

There’s no limit to the amount of walkons a team can have. If a team (human or sim controlled) has more than 3 openings, SimAI will offer scholarships to try to get to 9. But it won’t necessarily be able to get those players, so you will occasionally see teams with more than 3 walkons - usually teams that have been recently vacated.

I took 5 walk-ons this year and 2 got on scholarship because I thought there was a 3 walk-on limit.

Someone can correct me if this isn’t true, but I think >3 walkons is a D1 thing. At lower divisions, since humans typically recruit from higher division pools, the Sim AI has no trouble getting to 9, as in your case. Lots of leftover D2 and D3 pool players to go around.

I have seen human teams with 7 to 9 walk on's when those people were trying to blow up a team or Conference (look at prior history at my Duquesne team, IVY League Allen World, and UPenn same Conference), and I have seen large Sim classes, but never as all walk on's. Could have sworn that one of the early 3.0 changes were for Sim teams that had more then three walk on guys, the computer would Sign any number above the first three so they would be more competitive. That UAB squad almost looks like a team that Customer Service removed the Human Coach for some sort of ethics or fair play violation during recruiting. That is mainly due to the track record of success the school had. Seven Walk On's just does not look right!

Lafayette, Rupp, D1 Patriot League had 8 walk-ons this season. They've been SIM run for the past five seasons. This is the first season this has happened, though.

for SIM teams, the engine tries to avoid this but will not always

for humans, I dont think there is a RULE against it - but there is a penalty that reduces the effectiveness of your practice as you add more and more walkons

no penalty for one

I dont know whether there is any for 2 - if any, it is tiny

reportedly enough to notice at 3 or 4

Arizona State had 9 walk-ons in season 104 in Smith. The Sim AI recruiting logic for high prestige teams is atrocious.

The new company that took over WIS has proven they have no plans to EVER improve this game. It has been what---almost two years---since they took over the game. It was told to us by seble when they took over that after a short while of reorganizing and hiring a person to help seble that they would start in on improving the games. They are pathetic liars and scam artists. They know there are flaws in the recruiting but they refuse to do anything about it. It is a shame because the basic engine of this game is fantastic. Too bad it is owned by a company that could care less about the people that give money to them to play this game and the person who runs the computer end of WIS is an incompetent fool. I am playing out my free credits and then I am done.

This is a finished product, it isn’t an eternal beta. There are some bugs and glitches here and there, but this is the game that exists, and the one that’s going to exist (for the most part) until there is a 4.0. It’s not likely to be soon.

Now we're talking. Let's spice these stale forums up a bit.

Cool. Spice.

”(blah blah blah) ...so I’m going to play out my free credits and then I’M GOING TO STOP PLAYING THIS GAME.”

1) I can hardly think of anything dumber than doing something you don’t enjoy just because it’s free. At least do something useful, like pick up trash on the sidewalk, or volunteer at the local animal shelter.
