If I were to sign a MiL FA (6 yrs of MiL exp/ 0 MLB yrs/ still has options) to a 2 yr deal with team option, assign to AAA, place him on the 40 man, and then decline his option next season, would he remain under control and automatically resign to a ML contract @ 500K or would he become a FA?

That sounds overly complicated. I would guess declining the option would place him into unrestricted FA and his resign demand would be $4.0 or whatever based on the OVR
