I've played for 19 seasons, and this is one of the few areas I don't completely understand.
If a played is called up just for the expansion period, does this affect his service time? Does it speed up his option and arbitration years? Does already being on 40 man change any of this?

If you call up at roster expansion that adds about 36 days to his service time.
Arb years will possibly be affected but not more than if you were going to call him up from day one of the following season.
Once on the 40 a player starts burning options each season. Calling him up at expansion will not have an impact on that.
