All CCAA elite 8 Topic

CCAA in Tark had an all conference Elite 8. Has anyone seen this before? It's a first for me.

I will say that is feels like California has too many recruits for the number of schools as those teams/conference dominate DII in many worlds.

There are a lot of California recruits, but there are also a lot of schools out there, in all levels. Should be a signal for coaches, populate the WCC and MWC and Big West. If you’re D2 or D3, try to scout out there, maybe with the camp.

We had a 10 seed lose in OT in r1 and my team lose to Sonoma in the S16 after beating the 1 in r2. Crazy season for the CCAA.

I coach CSU, San Bernardino.....I don't think this is good advice. I was a #1 seed, and am still #2 RPI after losing in the Elite 8 to a conference mate I scraped two wins against during the season. Half of my roster is from east of the Mississippi, because the recruiting is so competitive in CA. I scout east first where there is less competition and let the AP do their work, instead of battling on every good recruit with the rest of my conference, a few excellent teams from other nearby conferences, and of course the late DI poachers (not really poaching since we are all going after legit DI recruits for the most part). On any decent recruit in the area there are 3-4 conference schools on them from the start, all with great prestige and preferences. Encouraging people to go scout that area and throw their hat into the ring is like telling people to go butcher a deer barehanded then go for a jog through the lion's pen at the zoo.

That's nothing, 7 of 8 of them won't even win the championship.

If we were talking about the PAC 10, your point would be somewhat valid. We’re not. If a D2 conference is dominating a world, and especially if it is happening across multiple worlds (obviously not to the degree in this example, but generally, as mully asserts), it means there are a lot of scraps falling from the D1 table in the region. Not limited to CA, but all over the region - AZ, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY all produce good D1 recruits. That region’s camp can be a useful tool.

I’m not suggesting a lower level school from the east should fully scout CA, or go planting a flag. But see what falls. Some of those guys may want to leave the region, and they would be on decent footing to compete.

I noticed when I moved up from D2 to D1 that a lot of those low level D1 Cali schools (and west coast in general) are in conferences with baseline prestige just out of reach to qualify for without an extensive D2 resume. And if you are at the lowest baseline prestige conference in D1 looking to get promoted, you are most likely skipping that next tier and shooting for a better conference. I assume there are a lot of simai running those low level D1 Cali schools across all worlds. Without low level D1 competition, those D2 schools are feasting.

You can say that to a degree in the current HD environment, but there's a couple points here that havn't been made.

--We have the only full conference in DII Tark, and i believe the only conference that is even more than half full. Of those coaches, there were about half of them already in the conference before HD 3.0 when the game still had a pretty high population and we had success then as well.

--Between these coaches, we have multiple championships and champ game appearances (9 of 12 coaches with a title or title game in Tark). So it's a collection of coaches who know what they are doing, and based on what Reforminded just stated, there are recruiting opportunities elsewhere to avoid the battles, because every recruit basically has 3-4 coaches on him right from the beginning. The west has always been a dog fight for the top recruits. Yes there is some solid players that drop through the cracks, but the doesn't make them championship level players.

-Possibly the biggest contributor is our conference makes up 1/5 of the DII Tark population. Of 61 DII teams, 12 are in one conference.
