How well will this draft pick develop? Topic

He was just drafted with the 4th pick in the draft. I have never had a guy be this ready after the draft before. I decided to allow him his shot at the ML right away and never play in the minors. Where do you think ratings will end up?

Um, yeah. I think he'll be fine. 80 Overall at age 22 and he can actually hit. Defensively he ain't great but he'll grow into a position somewhere. Hell of a player.

Kinda useless to wonder "who got drafted before him?!?" but...

Agree with damag. He should become an offensive stud... doubt the glove will get good enough for 2B/CF but plus defense in LF with his bat and basestealing makes him a top player.

He was the first college play taken in the draft.

he will most likely end up in the 90s for OVR

I doubt that he gets up into the 90's for total OVR. He's already 22, and his Make-up is only 60. I've signed similar players in the past, and they tended to develop slower than I had hoped. My guess is a top end total OVR of 85 to 87.

He'll get to 85 OVR in yellows alone, he'll get to 90s via physical development and 95 with coaching. He has plenty of room to improve.

I've played 100 seasons and I can count on one hand the number of players who have been 80 OVR on draft day. If it was a IFA I'd say he's maxed out, but it's the draft so age means nothing.

You did the right thing assigning him directly to the majors

He has done very well so far. He never set foot in the minors and was drafted to a bad team. But has helped get us to the playoffs in his third season.

I only have about 30 seasons under my belt, but I have noticed that each draft is unique and the talent has huge variability from season to season. I have now seen about six draft classes where there were no players like the one above whatsoever. I have seen about the same amount of draft classes where there were three or four players like the one above.

Sometimes when there is a lack of quality guys like the above, the draft class will be full of decent depth. However, this isn't always the case. Sometimes you get a draft class that has both quality and depth; other times you get a draft class that lacks both.

The above is one of the many reasons that I don't tank. If you run into draft classes where there is a lack of talent, all of a sudden, a planned three years of tanking turns into a half dozen years of tanking. The past two seasons in Earl Weaver had very little high school talent. It was frustrating this season because I was loaded with comp picks, but this season had a lack of quality and quantity.

Congrats on your guy. He seems to studding out.
