How long do you give a guy to break out of slump?
Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Edgardo Tapies
Tapies started slowly last year also. I've decided ~ 40 games is long enough this season. I have a good replacement for him, but he has been productive in the past and could eventually return to form. Thoughts?

Man, Tapies can do a lot of good things and you got him at a good price. I'd be tempted to say 'Never'. Worst case scenario if you have a better replacement, change his positions he can play to include 2B and have him at the top of the chart for pinch hitting and pinch running. Every team needs a guy like that in their lineup or on their bench. If you trade or release him, you won't get value and will be kicking yourself when he goes back to his median for another team.

Agree with Hockey... making some simplifying assumptions, the standard deviation on batting average is about 50 points based on the number of at-bats he has so far this season. So if he is actually a .280-level hitter, there's about a 1-in-5 chance that he'd be 40 points below his "true" ability level after 80 or so AB. What you're seeing is just a little bad luck, not a drop in ability level.
