If you decline an option on a player do you still get the type A status?

I believe you don't. If they decline a mutual/player option you can still receive the comp pick though.

Correct. The only way you'd get compensation is if they decided to decline the option. Otherwise, it's no different than if you non-tendered a player. No compensation if it was your decision.
