Why do some teams have 4 walk ons? It creates an unfair recruiting advantage.

I'm going after a guard with one of my teams, however this team that is coming in late has 4 walk ons. I've noticed it with a handful of teams.

Maybe bonus walkons are a consolation prize if an inel recruit decides to go Juco?

I imagine final signings roll right before the inels decide whether to stay or go. But I'm guessing.

Wouldn't that advantage in recruiting they have, turn into a disadvantage when game time comes? So it just becomes choices in the end I would think.

In this case, with an A+ D-1 school, it seems the walk ons are sometimes better than SIM A1 signing that 9th player. But, I would most certainly want the
APs and the extra $3,000 that some garbage player that won't make much of an impact.

is simAI supposed to sign a 9th player automatically for all teams, or just ones who have new coaches or something?

I sent in a ticket and based on the response, they said they wouldn't sign a low quality player in comparison to their current prestige and due to the lack of quality players at D-1, whatever formula is used, so they end up taking a 4th walk on.

I guess, in a sense, it's a fair trade off, since EE's can be a bit harsh on a team, but at the same time, it still creates an unfair advantage for the team they are recruiting against, with say only 3 walk ons.

Taking on a bunch of walkons is a pretty common strategy for top teams.
Also, there's a practice penalty for teams having too many walkons... ratings and IQ improve at a much slower rate. The more walk-ons a team has, the slower the improvement.

When a high prestige team is vacated, and no one takes over for a while, that’s where you see sim controlled teams with tons of walk-ons, for the reason wiz named. It balances a bit when the prestige drops below the B range, and they’re willing to take lower level recruits.

When 3.0 came out, I was under the impression that no team was allowed to have more than 3 walk ons. But think the situation of teams having more than 3 walk ons should be corrected, whether they need to generate more recruits, make them sign not so good players or even allowing every team the option of having more than 3 walk ons

I was under the impression that in 3.0 no team could have more than 3 walk ons as well. Can you link to the team in question with 4?

It was never that they “weren’t allowed” more than 3. If you have more than three, your sim assistant will look to sign more to get you to 9. That doesn’t mean they’ll find guys to sign - as wiz said, they won’t dip down too far below what it considers appropriate for prestige level. So A level prestige teams are less likely than C level teams to carry more than 3 walkons.
