What is a good guideline for picking starting pitching or is it just luck and playing the right teams in an open league.

Based on the salary cap, how much are you going to spend on pitching, and on offense? Determine how many quality innings you will need. Is there AAA available? A DH in use? Determine what you can spend per inning, and per plate appearance. In an open league, if I'm looking to draft 1,300 innings with half of the $80M available, then I'm looking in the $30000-32000 per inning range. I will spend less if I can find effectiveness cheaper, yes? This is a guideline. Trial and error is needed to fine tune building a roster. I suggest that you watch what veteran owners are doing to be successful.

Settings must be set to advanced, down at the bottom of the draft center. There are a multitude of search parameters available.

Most leagues are not restrictive regarding who you can draft, or what type of team to build. You can try pitching rotations of 2 to 6. 3 and 4 are very common. Perhaps spend a bit more on an ace, or your top 2 starters? Perhaps save some dough with a slick fielding middle infielder with a less than stellar bat. Identify and use your AAA if available, especially early in the season. Fatigue hits hard and early. The pitches your guys are throwing are seen as a baseline for 162 games. In the opening game, if your SP throws 90 pitches, he is on pace for 90×162 games. He will need a few games to recover. Pay attention to actual IP/g numbers. A guy that averaged 5.2 innings per appearance can't go deep into games without having fatigue issues. His effectiveness will be curtailed.

You have a Spring Training team available in the draft center. Practice building a roster. Take time to search for bargains based on $/IP and $/PA. Draft enough innings and at bats. Read the pinned threads...

I have a couple of newbie questions, so I'll try here...

1. How do you find your pitchers batting statistics?

2. I've read on the forums about players with a range of A++, or A+++ (higher than A+). Can someone explain what this extra plus means, or how to determine what player has this type of rating?

Thanks!
