Recruiting - How to get up to high? Topic

Is there a way to know roughly how much effort you'll need to put into someone in order for them to have you listed as high? I figured one guy would have me above moderate by now but he doesn't.

So many factors. You appear to be playing D2. If you're recruiting D1 pool players, you can't move above moderate until recruiting session 2 begins. After the NT. No matter the effort.

Also you aren't aiming for a certain budget to spend, to get to a certain level. If no one else pursues the recruit, you can get him for just unlocking the scholarship. On the other end, you could throw the kitchen sink at a recruit and not move up from very low if higher division schools are involved.

It's all about relative effort. I recommend you do a bit of forum digging to grasp the basics. And reach out to a mentor for assistance. There's so many avenues in this game, it just takes a lot to understand it all quickly.

Good luck with your recruiting!

Ah that makes sense. I wasn't aware that it worked that way now and thought we were still able to pulldown recruits whenever. So I guess my best bet in that scenario would be to just focus on putting in Attention points and one campus visit and then stashing the rest of my budget to battle in session 2 for him since I won't be able to sign him in session 1?

Sometimes. That’s the best bet before you have a good feel for how it works, anyway. With more experience in this system, you’ll get a better sense of the times when it may be appropriate to invest in visits during the first session, to prevent late charging D1 human coaches from sneaking into signing range and nabbing a guy before you can sign him.

One of the most important things to understand about inter-division battles, which I think a lot of folks still don’t get, is that if it’s the first session, and your D2 team is listed as moderate, and a D1 team is moderate or even high, *you are ahead in effort credit*. You may even be ahead if the D1 is at very high. But if the player has an early or end of period 1 signing tendency, you’ll lose him without battle. So if you have good reason to believe the D1 team can’t or doesn’t want to prioritize this guy highly, it can make sense to do a good chunk of early visits. But you need to understand the risk, because if you read the battle situation and it goes the other way, and the D1 team *does* prioritize the guy enough to invest a decent amount, you’ll lose him (and all the resources you invested) without a battle, even when you’re ahead.

I understand the scenario you're describing but it seems like it'd be a risky move for me while I'm getting used to the system. What would be indication that a D1 team is not prioritizing a guy? Being listed as Very High but not giving the guy a scholarship offer?

When I was at DII, a DI coach at Moderate was enough to scare me away, particularly if they were a high prestige DI. DI Sims can still be beat, as shoe said, provided they aren't Very High or High on an Early or By End of 1st recruit.

If a DI coach hops on one of your targets at Very Low, it might just be a backup option for if/when his main targets fall through. To me, if they get to Moderate, they're trying. And if a DI coach is trying, you're not likely to win, unless it's a low-prestige DI and/or the recruit wants to play and you don't think the DI is willing to offer a Start. I've seen a handful of DII teams beat out DI teams.
