Playing a left handed third baseman (3B) Topic

Was wondering if anybody had any experience or data with playing a lefty handed thrower at third base. I have seven how disastrous it is to use one at second, but not so much third. The guy I'm considering has defensive ratings of: 82/86/81/83; so if it works, he'd be just fine at third.

He'll kill you. Guys like that are frustrating because they don't quite have the range for CF, so they have to be able to hit a bit to be useable as a corner OF. Those same ratings for a RH thrower are way more valuable.

Alex Matos is a very similar player used by Seattle in that way for 5-6 seasons. For those who don't want to click through the player card a million times:

His glove ratings during that time were Range 81; Glove 83; AS 81; AA 79
His fielding at 3B was shockingly not awful, but still bad: per 1400 innings he made 1 (+) play, 11 (-) plays, and 10 errors with a fielding pct of .975. He also turned 25 DPs per 1400 innings.

So that's bad but not disgraceful; it's like playing a guy with 58-60 range and 70's for the other three ratings. I can see rosters where I'd take that hit.

He's a switch hitter with 51 contact, 81 power, 76 vL, 92 vR and 65 batters eye.
Currently in IFA bidding. Along with a RHP with 78 control, 76 vL, 92 vR and 98 velocity with no pitches above 80 and one in the 30s

What is your international budget? I’d go for the pitcher.

also he looks like the kinda guy I put in left field who goes on to get gold gloves.

Just like this guy Tony Pujols

Id be interested in how it works if he bats good enough. If it his projected ratings id wait to really see what they are. I use Player Profile: Earl Hines - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports @ 3rd in the playoffs.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Id only do it if he hits .800 + ops. Plus those are projections so we really have no idea what he really will be.

Guys it's ok to play an 82 range CF you'll live (esp with 85+ glove and 80+ arm)
The arm is such a waste in CF.

From my experience, the negative (-) plays go up but the other defensive metrics stay about the same as you would expect for whatever defensive ratings the player has.
