After retiring from baseball, Phenomenal was a policeman in my old hometown of Manchester, New Hampshire, for almost 30 years. A phenomenal one, I'm sure. He got his nickname from pitching a non-hitter in which he didn't allow a ball out of the infield. Mentored Christy Mathewson and was responsible for bringing him to the majors.
