Draft picks who initially don’t sign. Topic

Discussion I am having with a fellow HBDer. If a draft pick at first declines your offer so they can finish school, can you persuade them to change their minds with a better offer? Do they ever randomly change their minds anyway?

If they decline your offer so they can finish school (or whichever reason) do not delete the email. Use the button to open up negotiations and give them the same offer again. You can do this multiple times until the season ends. Its all percentage based. If one of those times you fall into the 'YES' percentage then the person will sign. Some of us have given the same kid 5,6,7 of the same offer before they signed.

(Wonder why admin never banned us for this one?)

I have never heard of this? I may be wrong but do not think it is correct. The only way I have ever seen a guys sign whom originally would not is if they raise the demands on there own and you meet those demands.

If they raise their demand, it means they are in fact open to signing so once you meet the demand they sign.
If they just flat out reject, then you can continue to re-offer as many times as you want. Yes I've done it and succeeded. Only thing might happen is that the season might run out on you.

I once had $X left over at the end of the season so I started throwing it at a "probably won't sign" draftee just to see what might happen. Made him reject me over fifty times.

Hockey's correct. I do this almost every draft class with someone.

So you can do it(reoffer) how often? Once a day Once a minute, unlimited?

I mean, you could as often as you wanted in theory.

but what most of us will do is offer, they will say ‘I’m thinking about it’ then X days later they will either accept or reject.

if they reject, offer again.

If they accept: job is done.

As soon as he comes back with his answer (and declines), you can go ahead and resend the offer. Then wait for his decision again...rinse and repeat.

I can confirm that the above theory is a reality. I think I did it a total of five times before he agreed to sign. Also holding on to any negotiation email with the prospect is suffice. Not the first or the most recent.

The only evidence is the date they signed on the draft tab.
Player Profile: Mike Bryant - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports - most of my guys in the season 39 draft signed on 04/02/2019. However, Bryant signed on 04/16/2019.

I think sjpoker had a similar guy in season 43 of Dirt.
Player Profile: Gerrit Kerr - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports - Kerr was signed on 02/23/2019, but his other picks were signed on 02/10/2019.

Had a situation in Glavine this season where I missed out on intl market and had 16 million left in prospect money. I noticed that one of my later draft picks was one of those 'probably won't sign' guys and wanted 6 million to sign despite being picked in the 13th round. Once I knew that the intl guys were gone and I missed out on them, I offered the above 13th round guy what he was asking for. He declined once so I used the above trick to offer him again. He signed recently and we are deep in the MLB playoffs now.

Turned out not to be worth it because he was garbage, but just being able to buy that lottery ticket was better than 16 million in dead money.

I bump it up $1 each time

I think this is intended?
