The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a new owner for the Detroit Tigers, who will surge in 2001 with three excellent starters and one of the top picks in an awesome draft (Pujols or Ichiro on the hitting side, and Sabathia, Oswalt, Zambrano and Beckett topping the pitching). We are at game 100, and the Tigers currently are in line for the #2 pick. That could drop to #3, but probably not below that. The #1 pick is likely to be a pitcher, so Pujols looks very good. Grab one of the HOF hitters, and your team will compete in 2001, or grab a stud long-term starter who either produces immediately (Oswalt), or gives you many years of future #1 quality. In a 24 team league, there no powerhouse teams in the four team NL Central.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 2001, P Josh Beckett, P Carlos Zambrano and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible until 2002 or later. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2001 season, and a DH is used in the AL.
