I've got a heartbreaking win story. Season 113 in Knight I lost in the title game with a team that I thought was a pretty good bet to win the whole thing. Wrong, obviously. Season 114, make it back to the title game. I'm scrolling through the PBP and as I get near the end of the 2nd half, I see that it's obvious I'm going to come up short yet again. I'm down like 8 with barely over a minute to play, so in disgust I "X" out of the PBP, to look at the box score, only to see that I'd somehow won by 3.
How, you may ask? A bunch of missed free throws by my opponent, some well timed threes by me, and get this...........another missed shot by him followed by................a FULL COURT HEAVE by my CENTER (!) of all people, to win the game by three at the buzzer! I was actually sick for the guy I played, no way a game should end like that, especially one for the championship. I was really torn, I mean I was glad I won of course but I didn't want to win like that. It just felt......wrong.
Of course, I've also won a title with a team that went 33-2 with one of the two losses being by a tip-in at the buzzer and the other being to.....ready for this.....a Sim team that I was favored to beat by almost 60 points. Figure THAT one out!!! In retrospect, that has to be the biggest upset in HD history. Kind of like D2 Chaminade beating Ralph Sampson's #1 ranked Virginia back in the day. Then again, when the Sim has PF's and C's with Per ratings in the single digits lighting you up from three, there really isn't a whole lot you can do about that. That game was kind of like when you're playing against the computer in a video game and the computer just "decides" that you ain't winning that game. Nothing much you can do to stop that onslaught....
Oh, and I've been on both ends of the 1-16 upset as well. One way feels awesome, the other not so much.
