Take a look at your MLB guy's career ratings improvement since they came into the World and see how they develop. You will see that ratings like range, arm, power and batting eye develop quickly whereas glove, arm accuracy, splits and contact take longer to develop.

Experience. With the old set up it was set so everyone could see all the players previous season ratings. The changes have made that go away and therefor harder.
