How do you select what park to play in in OL? Topic

Curious how you guys address this. I build teams to a park but inevitably my record's are better on the road than at home. Seems that perhaps I am not a bright fellow. How do you guys select a park? Thanks.

Building a team based on a choice of park is the way to go, seems like you're on the right track there.

Worth noting that having the correct park is a generally a pretty small edge, so having a better record on the road can certainly happen even with a roster perfectly tailored to your home stadium. If that's happening to you, take solace in knowing your home record probably would have been even worse with a less optimal home park.

Interesting - thanks.

If I build a team 45/35 offense, do I put it in an offensive park to play to my strength and try to outscore opponents? The lesser pitching is exposed... I seem to lose these games. Same situation great pitching in Petco - lose a bunch of 2-1 and 3-0 games because although my pitching holds them down I cannot score myself with paltry offense.

Balance seems best I suppose. Maybe try to build a balanced team and play a neutral park.

Depends on the kind of offense. Different parks accentuate different offensive abilities.

If you're going to an extreme hitters park like Coors or Hilltop, you definitely need great range in the field to take away hits and give your pitching staff a break. Otherwise you will have to spend more money on innings than you otherwise would which means youre spending less on quality and more on quantity.

If you're going to an extreme pitchers park like Petco or Safeco, that allows you to spend less on innings and less on great range, since there will be fewer hits to take away.

In general though, the choice of park should be mostly about what your team does better or worse than the teams you will be facing. So if you pick modern Yankee Stadium, draft lots of HR hitters and pitchers who don't give up HRs. If you pick Target Field, you shouldn't draft any HR hitters. That kind of thing.

Well I guess I have been doing it "right" for the most part. Perhaps as you said park makes less significant impact than other variables. Thanks for your input.
