How does a low contact rating (say 50) work in relation with higher splits- hypothetically 84 on both?
Does this cause a higher K rate, but higher avg on BABIP?

From my understanding, it just means that the outs you generate are strike outs. Doesn't increase or decrease the number of outs that player will generate throught the season.

There are definitely people who are much more qualified to answer this question than I am, because I can't say that I've done a BABIP study, but generally speaking I think of splits as more of an "IQ rating" and contact as a "physical skills" rating. IWO, they're good at knowing when to swing (because of their splits) but not necessarily great at making contact even if they pick a good pitch to swing at (because of meh contact rating.)

It's hard to say without knowing the power and eye also. A player with a 50 contact is not going to hit for a great average even with high splits. He would have to have a nice power rating or great eye to be anything more than mediocre

To me, the splits to keep an eye on are vs.L and vs.R combined with eye. As bruinsfan911 alluded to, these go more to the player's IQ as opposed to contact and power, which are physical tools. 50 contact is low for a major-leaguer, without knowing anything else.

First of all, thank you for the responses. Going into my 2nd year and greatly appreciate the help.
Using a specific player from my team, what type of hitter do I have if he progresses to the following rates: 63 contact, 95 pwr, 86vL, 85vR, and 55 eye.

You have a perennial all-star depending on position. Even at 1B, you have an above average hitter.

Awesome. Thank you all

Look at players with similar ratings and there stats. Look at good stats and there ratings that is the only way to really get a feel for what works.

This is not backed up by anything. Just my own shorthand way of imagining the ratings working:

Contact: Bat to ball ability
Power: Launch angle
vL and vR: ability to barrel up/drive the ball
Eye: Pitch ID, knowledge of the strike zone

Obviously there are algorithms behind all of these ratings, but the above helps me conceptualize how a player’s handful of ratings may translate to performance, along with his speed , base running and handedness.

He just left me via FA but a pretty decent comparable. Your guy has a little more power and contact....little less vL and eye. He will be a stud.
