Bob Watson RIP Topic

He died today at age 74. First black GM to win a championship. Also during his career he became the millionth run scored in MLB history.

I always thought he never really received the recognition he deserved for his central role in putting together one of, if not the greatest teams and dynasties in baseball history, the Yankees of 1996-2001, including the core of that great 1998 team.

A good player too. RIP Bob Watson.

I was a rabid 10 year old Red Sox fan in 1979 when the Sox acquired Watson in a trade deadline deal. He hit .337/.401/.548 in the second half. Unfortunately the Sox let him walk as a free agent (to the Yankees, no less) and instead signed Tony Perez that winter. I still think they made the wrong choice.
