What should I do with him? Topic

I am new (played only one season). I’ve picked up a few things along the way. My team lacks depth at every level. I know his control is awful for a starter. His R/L effectiveness is still among the best in my entire organization. I have him at AAA mainly because of options. I don’t have many options for pitchers in my organization.

His splits are OK, Velocity and P1 very good, but even in a straight up tank job that control is a no go for me. Looks like he pitched nearly 100 innings last season with an ERA more than 10. That might be even worse than I figured it would be.

The catcher last year had pitch calling of 40 so I think it was elevated some, but also in hitters ballpark. So elevated more.

He was a rule 5 guy. Pitched him more than I should, but didn’t have any options. Maybe Long B at ML level. He’s pitching well enough at AAA level.

You can find a better option for cheap in free agency or on the waiver wire.

Leave him at AAA, unless you're really screwed for a 12th pitcher/long reliever. He'll eat innings and set them on fire. You should easily find a better pitcher in Rule 5 or the bottom of the barrel free agents.
His splits are only just major league average. He's only got one good pitch. His overall rating is only elevated because his Dur/Sta, Groundball, and Velocity are high. And Control that low - hate to say never, but - almost never works in the majors.
Classic quad-A SP.

You could use him in Mop Up if you get desperate.

A rule of thumb for pitching ratings-- 70 is a marginal major leaguer, worse than average but better than replacement.

If his control were 70, he'd be a very useful utility pitcher, SP5 or LRB or mopup. With 33 control he's not even a good AAA pitcher.

Thanks everyone. I’ll keep him at AAA. Should be able to find players next year rule 5/FA.

Player Profile: Farmer Romero - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports is not a ml player on a team that is trying to win. Even if his splits were in the 90's he would be aaa at best.

This guy has been fairly effective at 51 control with pretty good splits and a high P1. His WHIP for his career is 1.5 with an ERA of 4.13 over 435 innings. This is about as low as I would want this guys control to be.

He has a small sample size and is probably a ticking time bomb, but Victor limon has a 3.5 through 115 innings. I almost let him walk as 6-year minor league free agent and promoted him at the last minute as a 25th man.

He isn't terrible. My numbers have him with a BAA of .237 and an OBP .343. The 83 groundball rate will help keep that slugging down and also help getting guys out via GIDP since so many guys will be on first due to the walks he will give up. He is way overperforming that. I would probably try to trade him once he hits arb1. Especially if those numbers stay stick.

Lol 1.5 whip is not good. Im upset if my pitchers are above 1.35 in a hitters park.

He will eventually play to his ratings.
