OK, I just finished my free season of HD, and had enough fun with it to purchase a 2nd season. Mainly because I didn't have any scholarship openings, so I rescinded some scholarships late and signed some recruits in the 2nd signing period. I want to see how much they'll improve my team next season. Anyway, after my 2nd season with this team, I am wondering if I should stay with this team for 4 years, or if I should move up. Are there any differences between D2 and D3, other than the talent level?

More scouting and recruiting money. I think most people prefer DII as a happy medium between DI and DIII.

One of the best things about D2 is that you start signing recruits the first cycle in RS2, and you don't have to wait until the last 24 hours of recruiting, as you do in D3. Of course, you could move up to D2 and take over your D3 team with your alternate ID. Best of both worlds.

To be frank I think 75-80% of the community enjoys DII more than DIII. Maybe even more. Its just a better designed game IMO.

Yeah. Pick up a team in a conf with owners though. It is more enjoyable. Build the team slowly( pick offense/defense). Unfortunatly, a new owner has a lot to learn so don’t hesitate to ask questions in the forum. It’ll take you four seasons to be competitive.

i think it depends on what your plans are..i stayed with my 1st d3 team for 20 + seasons 'cause i wanted to win a championship with them..didn't happen.. but if you're looking to get to d1 faster go to d2

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It sounds like the difference between D3 and D2 in HD is similar to the difference between the two in GD. I probably will move up after my 2nd season in D3. Or find the most populated world, and pick up a team there.

D2 allows more room for error. And a bit more strategy options. As others have said, D2 is a happy medium. You can always go back to D3 later if you want. But going to D2 allows you to further your career, and if you WANT (later on), it can help you get to D1 sooner. I spent 100 seasons at D2 before trying D1. Unlike most. And I highly recommend it. I couldn't imagine playing D1, before learning what I've learned to this point. I feel like the people that rush to D1 just to do it, don't even realize what they're getting into, and can have a tough time. Learning how to win at D2 and D3 is important.

I have 3 D2 teamd and 3 D3 teams (or at least will after I move up in a world next season). I like both pretty equally. Just different games.

A couple things. First, you are in an all sim conference at d3, which is fine, but as others said the game is more enjoyable for most in fuller conferences. You'll get your teeth kicked in for a few seasons but you'll learn more and compete quicker. These conferences can be found in d2 or d3 (see the socal conference my Colorado team is in in iba). Second, I see you recruited d2 and d3 projected players. Again, fine, especially d2, lots of d3 guys recruit d2, but you can also recruit d1 guys from d3. Third, if you change jobs at the end of the season, I suggest trying to find a team that was recently coached by a semi successful human in the past couple of years so you at least have a few usable players to start with. Complete rebuilds can be fun, some coaches really enjoy them, but as a new coach I'd try to give yourself some decent players to start with to be somewhat competitive. Feel free to sitemail me if you have any questions, I always enjoy talking the game, even if it as you go through your season. Good luck, if you're willing to stick with it until you get the hang of it I think you'll really enjoy the game.
