New to HBD and recently read about the importance of pitch calling... I've got two catchers Pryor and Uribe. Pryor is young with above average bat skills and average D, but pitch calling sits at 36... Uribe has an average bat and below average D, but pitch caling is 72.

Just wondering what some of the vets think. Not sure if the pitch calling is worth starting Uribe over Pryor.

Also, I've thought about playing Pryor against LHP and Uribe against RHP. In short, I'm just not sure the pitch calling makes up for Uribe's deficiencies when compared to Pryor.

IMO any pitch calling rating less than 50 is a huge liability.

I've used Catchers with pitch calling in the 40s pretty regularly, but they're Silver Slugger caliber. And I play in a pitcher's park.

Id use Player Profile: Wendell Pryor - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports in rf or at dh and find two other catchers.

Agree using Pryor RF/DH. Uribe in final year of contract, ok to keep and let walk at end of season (unless you can get something of value in trade; but seems like you already were that guy). Then get 1 C for the season.

My first reaction was that this was not a good idea-- Uribe's bat doesn't offset his rag arm-- but in the world I'm in with complete stats available for this season you could have played Uribe against 5 AL teams that either don't run, or run counterproductively (eg, 93 SB, 103 CS). So if you got a solid primary C you could rest him by playing Uribe against teams that can't/don't run.

The 49 arm strength for Uribe may end up being devastating. Teams are going to run all over him and his bat is not good enough to make up for it. I think he is relegated to, at best, pinch hit duties. I think you definitely need to find two more catchers. It's usually not too hard to find a light hitting true defensive catcher (75+ in arm strength, arm accuracy, and pitch calling.)

Posted mine the same time as dedelman, but he makes a good point.

Appreciate all the feedback. I knew the situation wasn't ideal, just wasn't sure which way to lean. Uribe's defense seemed like a huge liability but pitchers have been getting lit up with Pryor....
