The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a replacement owner for the Texas Rangers (the Houston Astros have been taken), with the season just underway. After the draft, the original owner became too busy at work, and couldn't get his team in in a timely manner, with no prospects for things to lighten up. Take the team for free! This team will definitely compete for a playoff spot in 2003, owning the 4th highest payroll. Pitching is in great shape, with 1,566IPs, and a 1.24/.249/3.56 overall WHIP/OAV/ERA. Beyond this free 2003 season, the pitching staff is solid through 2005, with over 1,100 starter SPs in 2004 (where you could trade 1-2 starters for another ace). Batting in 2004 is also very good, with seven players having over 500ABs, and four more with over 300, so you can focus on getting an ace on the starting pitcher side to compete for the playoffs. In fact, batting looks really good through 2008, so, again, you can focus your future drafting and trades on pitching only.

This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, for this season's 2003 draft, P Ryan Madson, OF David DeJesus, SS Clint Barnes, and some others started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible until 2004 or later. This 2003 season had very few of those, and 2004 will be light too, while most years have superstars that you can draft, but must wait to develop. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2003 season, and a DH is used in the AL. We have been around for over 60 seasons, and the rules are very detailed to prevent tanking. Plus, there is a great group of owners in this 24 team league, with lots of friendly banter and plenty of trades.

Please sitemail if interested, and for further details.

Cleveland is taken, while the Astros are still up for grabs. They have a powerful team which should compete in 2003 and 2004. The draft is about to start off the clock.
