Once a shot is taken by the other team, your player (randomly, mostly at the PF/C) has a challenge rating (random) and his ath/reb decide if he grabs it. If he can’t grab it, the offensive player (mostly his the one he faces but sometimes another) has a challenge rating that his ath/reb make him grab or not and so on.

You guys think it works that way?

A challenge rating?

Gil can confirm but this is NOT how it works.

Which team gets the rebound is decided first. Player rebound stats are completely window-dressing and may/may not correctly represent the true rebounding contribution of the player.

So how do they decide the value of rebounding? It's a team thing even in man to man or press? I doubt it.

Offensive IQ plays a role for offensive rebounds, and defensive IQ for defensive rebounds. I believe athleticism also plays a factor.

I don't believe rebounds are window dressing-gil always said assists were but I don't think he lumped rebounds into that category.

Forgot iq: so it’s a challenge say : 80... you get the PF stats, rebound, ath modifier, iq modifier = success or fail... Fail offensive player... repeat etc.

Not necessarily. I *think* the decision tree is:
-Shot
-Make or miss
-If miss, team A or team B gets the rebound (based on who is on the floor and the other aforementioned factors that go into the rebounding equation); let's say team B gets the board, then
-the engine uses another decision tree to decide which player on team B gets the rebound

I could be wrong, but from what I've read on the forums over the years this is how I envision it working.
