Home Team Advantage Topic

2nd season here. 92 wins in my first. For experienced players what would you guess that the home field advantage is in this game? In what world does Hippo Vaughn, Walter Johnson, Rollie Fingers + others (15 mil worth of staff in one game alone) lose to a AAA starting pitcher and a 3-4 pitcher bullpen that might be about $4 mil total? I noticed it in my first season and it seems about the same, I feel the visiting team is at about a 3 run disadvantage before the first pitch is thrown. Anyone else care to guess...

No disadvantage is built into the algorithm

In fact, it’s long been speculated that the visiting team has the advantage due to how sparky manages pitching staff in games with the lead versus games losing, and just due to the nature
of the visiting team batting first, they are more likely to have the lead first.

historically, most owners have done better on the road than at home. I posted a thread theorizing as to way maybe 7-10 years ago... the dominate play style has shifted some, but it’s still somewhat similar, so may still apply. I’ll see if I can’t find and link it.

its not speculated

the R wins more than the H

over the history of the sim

which tells you what a poor simulation we play every day

we play it anyway

Thanks for the answers. So my first season just finished. I went back and looked and only 2 teams had more wins on the road, one was 38 wins at home to 40 on the road and the other 29 to 30. One team was 57 to 57. In my conference there were 52 more home wins vs road wins and as I said, 9 of the 12 teams had better records at home.

I felt I could pretty much predict if I'd win or lose the series based on home/away.. is sweep bad teams at home, win 2 of 3 on road. If I played a good team on the road I'd get swept or win 1, was clockwork.

I'd have to look but tiger stadium was my home, I think another team had same home, I'd be curious to see my record when I was home vs them home though it would be a small sample size.

I'll look at the sticker posted, thanks!

In general, I also don't think many people are great at picking their park.

Anything can happen in 1 game. Bad pitchers sometimes beat good pitchers in real life and in the Sim too.
Ballpark advantage is quite small unless you have an extreme team in an extreme park.
There is a strategic advantage to batting last so you know how many Runs to play for. And because you can delay pinch hitting decisions one half inning. Baseball is the only major sport that has a built-in advantage for the home team. I don't know how well that advantage is programmed into the Sim.
