Ok, so a D2 juco with a late preference. Fair enough. The D2 team would have to win outright, hold the D3 team out of signing range to prevent a battle. That’s still generally not an issue, if the recruit has been prioritized by the higher level team. Early effort scares the vast majority of D3 teams off, and prevents them from investing visits. Certainly a first session scholarship offer with a visit or two means you’ll (almost) never need to worry about a challenge from the D3. The exception of course is if the D3 is astute enough to correctly guess that you’ll break out ahead and then leave him alone, in which case they could potentially store up for a RS2 bomb. But still, we’re talking about priority. If the player is a priority, lock him up. If he’s not, that’s a choice you’re making, to leave yourself vulnerable.
