Franchise Player Progressive - *new* Topic

So I've been on WIS for over a decade and never started my own progressive. I think it's time I do it. Here's what I'm thinking.

Franchise Player Progressive

Inaugural Draft - random order, ABBABAABBAABBAABBAABBA
2 players will be selected in the 12th round.
You can trade your entire draft pick slots if after order is determined. For instance, if you'd rather draft 24th than 10th, you can swap places, but you swap all picks.

Draft Class - entire WIS database

Roster Rules
A drafted player will be on your roster for as long as they played for that franchise. If you draft Michael Jordan, he's on your roster until he leaves the Bulls. Draft Shaq - you get the Magic years, as so on. You HAVE to draft each player in their WIS rookie year. No taking LeBron's Heat years, etc.

After the inaugural draft, any undrafted player will be available in future years, at their WIS rookie year.

Offseason Draft
A player is on each team's roster until they leave the franchise. Once Shaq leaves the Magic, his Lakers years are now available in the draft. Draft order will be randomized each offseason with the following rules: no team can draft in top 4 or bottom 4 two years in a row. So we'll do a randomized draw (TBD method) and if anyone lands in top 4 for a 2nd straight year, they instantly move to 5th pick and everyone else bumps up accordingly. Same with bottom 4 - if someone lands in bottom 4 again, they instantly move to 20th pick and everyone moves back 1. (if the reallocation of teams causes a team to land in top 4 or bottom 4 for second straight year, team with better record will get the better pick as a tiebreaker...rewarding winners here).

Trades
None - the goal is to build a franchise with franchise players. You shouldn't have to trade given the depth of WIS players you can add.

Adding/Dropping Players
You can drop 2 players each offseason, but it has to be done BEFORE the draft order is determined. This should make adding/dropping more strategic than simply landing the number 1 pick and THEN cutting a player.

Any cut player is available to be drafted at the season/franchise they were cut from. If player X just finished year 3 of 6 with his franchise and gets cut, another team could "draft" him for years 4-6 for their franchise.

IR will only be available if a player has 0 minutes in WIS database for a season and still returns to your franchise. So when Jordan goes to play baseball, you get to IR him and draft someone else, but when Jordan returns, you'd have to cut 1 player to make room. And only 2 cuts per offseason, so you have to play this out.

Minutes
There will be a 19,000 minute requirement every season. If you can't meet the requirements, you will have to use your 2 offseason cuts for low minute players and add high minute players. So be wise with planning.

So - any input is welcome, and who wants in?

How does this work for players traded mid-season?

Hmm, good point.

Probably rare but I’d say they remain with your franchise for that season since at beginning of season they were with your franchise still.

You could probaby use the partials if it's not too hard to keep track of.

For example, if you draft Rasheed Wallace as a Trail Blazer, you could use seasons 96-97 through 02-03 and then for his 03-04 season you could still have the partial 1675 minute on your roster but not the full minute version.

Then when he goes back into the draft pool for the Pistons you could use the other partial from 03-04, his 673 minute version as his starting point.

Either way, I'm in if this gets traction. I like the idea.
