Practice minutes Topic

What is your split of practice minutes between team offense/defense and individual skill development? Do you change this ratio over the course of the season? Do you invest any minutes in your next opponent's O/D?

1) Consensus is 20-25 mins for Off and Def. I tend to go lower in DIII and higher in DI because the lower rated players usually have more potential.
2) Unless I made a mistake I dont touch this over a season. I also will this constant over the life of the team.
3) NOT at ALL

25/25 set it and forget it.

Then 16’s spread across 5 categories.

the first part is fine. the second - not so much. you definitely want a more finely calibrated practice planning scheme than that. player development is a pretty important part of the game, there's a lot of times 16m in a core growth area just isn't going to cut it. lot of places you want more than 0 but less than 16 as well.

practice time is only for your team's benefit..no use scheduling time for opponents defense or offense

Putting 16 or less in conditioning is 90% a bad idea for a freshman.

I max out every player. You guys do whatever you think is best.

Once a category hits red I set it to 0. I’ve had no issues. If it’s yellow or red going in, it gets a 0.

its fine to disagree but i suppose i'll add that maxing a player is only part of the story. players play important roles as NT-time sophs and juniors (sometimes even as freshman), and many of those will not be maxed no matter what your approach. at that point it becomes a matter of what do you need and when do you need it. in my opinion, tinkering to control which abilities are ready at which point offers significant value.

I agree. It's all situational to me. So it's hard to have a cookie cutter setting. The statement about "16 or less in conditioning for freshman isn't a good idea"..... what of your freshman big happens to have 71 Ath orange/yellow, 2 Spd black, and 78 orange/yellow ST. But yet has green 40 in every remaining big man core? Would you put 16 minutes on conditioning in that case? I likely would not. And that's a very realistic player.

On the flip side, let's say it's a totally different player.... if I have a green 10 LP, and green 67 REB, I'm likely gonna have more than 16 min in the LP, and sometimes less than 16 in the REB. Depending on every other attributes current standing vs potential
