There's been a lot of talk lately about the value of promises and how they should be adjusted. Personally, I don't think promises (start/minutes) should extend the full length of time the recruit is on campus. But I do think they should extend into the postseason of his freshmen year. Being able to sit freshmen in the CT and NT means there are practically zero consequences to the coach. It also makes the tournament seeding mean far less.

Do you think recruiting promises should extend the entire freshmen year?

Yes, and make it 100% including the NT and CT!

Never really thought about this, but I like it.

Definitely extend it into the postseason. I would also get rid of the 80% cut off and make it 100% of starts and even one start less gives them a chance to transfer. Maybe more lenient with minutes since those are harder to control.

I also kind of like a promised start lasting all 4 years. Right now, unless its a gimme on RS2, I am automatically promising a start and 20 minutes whether they have a preference for it or not. There's almost no reason not to when you're a B/C prestige. There'd be a lot more strategy to it.

Somehwhat related, but we need to be able to set end of game lineups based on the situation. Whether you're winning or losing and whether you need a stop or a bucket. This way you could still start a FR but have a better player in at the end of the game...although it might be better to leave in another deterrent to promising starts.

Would love to hear the argument from the 36% who don't want it to extend into the postseason. I'm assuming because then it will be harder for you to win?

If changes are ever going to be made to promises, I want them to make the system more intelligent. I actually like the way GD handles promises a bit more. I’d like to be able to promise a starting position as sophs and juniors - or put another way, to tell a recruit you may not start this year, but you will be a 2 or 3 year starter. And I’d also love to be able to promise a percentage of shots, like 10-20%.

Promises/starts should include the postseason. Minutes should probably last the entire 4 years.

Agree. I don't want to like the idea of strictly enforced promises lasting all four years, but right now there's no deterrent to handing them out like Halloween candy.
