National Award (DPOY) Determination Process Topic

I don't assume that the national awards have any impact on anything important within the game (prestige, draftability, etc.) but wanted to bring up a clear issue with the way the system determines the winners of these awards, DPOY in this case.

In Tarkanian the other day, the national awards were awarded and the Defensive Player of the Year was a freshman who played TWO MINUTES in A SINGLE GAME...but had two steals within that negligible playing time. So clearly, it would appear, the system looks at little more than per-game averages to determine that award winner...

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Very strange! That has to be one of the funniest oddities I've seen here. At least he kept busy in those two min, 2 TOs, 2 STLs, and shot 4 FTs. I don't want some of my freshmen that get 10mpg, every game, doing that much!

Haha yeah my conference mate posted that on coaches corner. Hadn't seen anything that before

The legend Don Simpson was held back by coaching obviously. With 25 minutes a game, he would clearly have 25 steals and 37.5 points a game!
