Deaths from Peanut Allergies Topic

On average, 150 die from peanut allergies EVERY SINGLE YEAR. That's just in the USA.

Shouldn't we just get rid of peanuts?

Why or why not?

No, I'm a pretty big fan of individual freedoms when it doesn't lead to huge consequences, and it seems like the costs from making peanuts illegal would outweigh the benefits.

Restaurants should obviously have to disclose when something has peanuts, but otherwise I'm not sure how a death from a peanut allergy could result from anything other than a mistake from the harmed individual. I would need more information on the circumstances behind the 150 deaths to make better policies around that.

Outweigh the benefits of saving lives?

I am intrigued.
Not surprised but definitely intrigued.

Do you disagree? There are many things that kill other people, but serve a mostly positive purpose. Mainly, recreational activities. But like I said, the key factor is that those deaths typically come because of an individual's poor decisions, rather than to an innocent person. How many people have peanut allergies and don't die from peanuts?

What's the number of lives that matter enough to change your mind?
8/13/2020 11:50 AM
It depends on specifically how they died. That's why I asked for further information.

This is the height of bad faith.

We do everything we can to prevent those 150 deaths.

^^^ Exactly. I would need more data on how they died, so we can work to prevent those deaths.

Obviously we do NOT do EVERYTHING we can or we'd get rid of peanuts and that number would be zero instead of 150.

What number makes "we do everything we can to prevent" not an acceptable answer

It depends on what we're doing now, and as a said, the circumstances of their deaths.

Ban cars too moron! You're just trolling and being pedantic.

Peanut allergies are NOT communicable.
The government has a much smaller role. Support science.
Let science find ways to identify HUMANS born with peanut allergy.
Inform those citizens of the risk to their health of the ingestion of peanut/peanut oil.
Require public food deliverers to post notice of usage of peanut products in their food.

End of duty.
Just a tad different than a communicable virus or bacteria or bio-terror attack being perpetrated and spread on the entire citizenry.
In THOSE situations, the majority view the Government as having a role to step in and mandate policies to SAVE THE LIVES of the Citizenry.

You're just being obtuse and ridiculous!

Holy crap: 2 in a row I agree 100% with bob.
