Can anybody tell me why the following pitcher sucks so bad this season? The only thing I can see is his low GB/FB rating pitching in Hartford, but I never thought that had that big of an effect on what should be an otherwise pretty good pitcher. Any thoughts?

I've seen SPs with only 3 pitches struggle; not to mention your guy's 3 pitches are subpar at best.

I dont think he "that good" of Pitcher. His splits are on the borderline, and he does not have good enough Pitch Quality to raise the borderline splits. Add in the low GB, and you've got this Pitcher's stats.

On other teams, I've seen pitchers with similar splits and pitch quality pitch to an ERA between 3.00-3.50. I was anticipating 3.50-4.00 because of the GB/FB based on my experience with otherwise similar pitchers. Oh well, I'm in a rebuild, and he's a bridge player until the next waves are ready, so I guess I'll take the lumps with him.

Id expect him to be a 1.4-1.60 whip pitcher. His pitches are not good. Id say he is performing where he should rating wise. I have no issues using 3 pitch pitchers it is a myth. I never use era when looking at performance.

I think he is overperforming to this point. I would expect him to give up a BAA of .280 and an Obp of .345.

He's not a good pitcher. I have him rated as a borderline ML pitcher or a AAA+ pitcher. Maybe a decent LRB/Mop guy to eat innings but he is a typical R2-R5 draft pick.

He would be in the rotation on a rebuild but certainly not on a contender.

+1. I would project this pitcher to have exactly that ERA in Hartford (AL).

Agree, those pitches.... I wouldn't take a P1 and preferably P2 less than 70 without stellar splits. Those out years at almost $11 mil are gonna hurt.

Oh dear. That contract.

didn't even notice the contract. That's an "oops" there. Try to deal him immediately to someone for anything, or nothing, just get rid of him and that contract if possible.

Same; looked at the ratings, age, and stats ... didnt even look at the contract. That is an albatross.

Oh gosh. Id waive the guy and pray someone takes him.

Pretty much what everybody else said. Splits in the 70's can be just fine, but not with the first two pitches in the 60's.
