Pitching in playoffs - TPC and MPC fell like rock Topic

Hi, I have used a 5-man rotation and all 5 of my pitchers were at 100% all season and I used them all less than actual Innings Pitched. Now that I am in playoffs, all of my Total Pitch and Max Pitch numbers have gone down drastically.

For instance, a pitcher that has always been 120 TPC and 130 MPC is now 90 TPC and 100 MPC. Is this normal? I assume if it is normal it is assuming I will play every game of every series.

How does one best manage this? Put them at higher TPC and MPC numbers than suggested?

Thanks in advance, and yes, I did look through forums for info on this to no avail.

You can thank the old fatigue teams for that :)

Anyone able to answer my questions?

I don’t know the specifics- but i believe it has something to do with once you’re in the playoffs, it assumes everyone has used up all the pitches allotted during the year.

are you using “recommended PC” or calculating?

I'm not sure, but I do consider the recommended pitch counts fairly worthless. Starting pitchers generally can pitch more, not less, in the playoffs. I set pitch. counts so that starters won't exceed their real life IP/game numbers, though.

read the FAQ threads on how to set pitch counts, that would be a good place to start

Are you saying you were using the default/recommended settings, and they changed on their own once the playoffs began? If so, I've never heard of that happening.

I was setting pitch counts to fewer than recommended settings during regular season for all pitchers. And they changed prior to first playoff game, which is to be played today.

Thanks crazyamos that is great information!

I'll let everyone know how I do in my first-ever playoff series. I am going to basically go with pitch counts set just below the regular season recommendations.

I've never heard of any settings changing on their own. That's odd.

Lost first game 9-2, now don't see recommendations button in advanced settings for pitch counts. Hmmm.

Don't ever use SIM recommendations for pitch counts.

As a general rule, multiply a pitchers actual IP/9 by 15 to get what you need. There are more acurated ways to do this by calculating a pitchers TRUE pitch count by 9. (see El Birdo's famous post: https://www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?TopicID=154851)
