Do FAs ever accept previously rejected offers? Topic

Greetings,

n00b question...do free agents ever accept previously rejected offers? or, once rejected it's dead. Do their requested terms come down as end of free agency gets closer? or would they rather sit out than accept lower?

Thanks for your help/advice!

It’s a bit tougher to ask then ‘yes’ or no. If you offer a player in free agency less then he is asking for, he will always reject and never accept. If you offer him equal to or more then he is asking for and he rejects it’s because another team has offered him more. If that other team withdraws or lowers their offer below yours then he could accept.

also in free agency If no teams are giving offers to players, their salary demands will lower over time.

Hockey's assertion is not exactly correct. Sometimes a FA will "consider," rather than "reject," less than he is asking for, especially if you are just offering fewer years, or if you are offering just a few percent less than the request. This is only applicable during the primary open FA period; at all other times the FA will automatically reject these offers.

If the FA outright rejects an inadequate offer-- if you get an "X"-- he will never look at that offer again. But if you get another indicator beside his name, and/or if the offer met his demands but you aren't leading, you just got outbid and can bid again.

ok...so rejected means "rejected" and not "i don't like it but we'll see how things shake out"...my concern was having a rejected offer out there, sign a different player, then first guy also accepts. Seems if offer rejected I need not be concerned.
