Changing Offense Questions Topic

I am changing from the Fastbreak to the Motion offense on a team I just picked up.
Class distribution: 4 seniors, 2 juniors, 4 sophomores and 2 frosh. The IQ's of the 10 upperclassmen range from B- to A+ in the Fastbreak and the two freshmen are pretty low. Do I run the Fastbreak for the rest of the season while practicing the Motion and run the Motion next season or wait until the team averages a certain letter grade and then start running Motion this season? I will recruit for the Motion offense, or course.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm doing this as well, but switching my offense and defense.

Your 10 sophomore through senior players have B- to A- Fastbreak IQ and the 2 freshman have F. Are the Freshmen going to play this season? If they aren't I would put 20 minutes in motion and 0 in FB, if they are going to play for you then I would go 20/5 so they can increase that F to around C- or so. I would try not to play Gerard at PG (I'd redshirt him if possible) with an F IQ. I would run the FB this season, because your motion IQ's are F to C+, even with the 20 minutes you won't get that average up as high as the FB before the season is over.

Practice motion, run fastbreak. Switch over to motion once you feel that your team is just as proficient in motion as they are in FB. Or . . . wait until the conference tournament, and then switch. You might catch an opponent off guard by doing that, if they prepare for a FB offense and you throw motion at them.

Update - 9 games into the season and 11 of the 12 players are now C- in the new offense and one sitting at D+. IQ's for the old offense are holding in the A-B range. Thanks for the advice guys.

I think IQ is overrated. There I said it.

I actually laughed out loud with this.

Judging by the way things are going these days... I'd say equally unimportant!

One thing to consider is how it affects recruiting. I switched D at D1 in a season I knew I wasn't going to compete so I played both zone and man throughout the year to increase recruiting preference. If you're interested here is a link to post I made about it and how I got multiple D's to alternate showing as very high preference throughout the year.

with 2 freshman, i typically practice the new set all season and play the old set all season. 1 season of IQ is not enough to catch up with just 2 freshman, especially if you can bury them on the depth chart for the post season (not sure if that FB is paired with press or not - but even if it is, and those 2 freshman will play a ten or so minutes each even on motion - you still are typically better with motion). next season after a lot of your team graduates, you may even still be better with FB, but that would typically change within 10 games or so - so i think a good rule of thumb is to play 1 season at the old offense. until you start to get past 4 freshman or else if like, a couple of them are going to start - or maybe you took a sim team and all the non-freshman are pure trash or something - its typically going to be true for most teams, that the NT in season 1 of your O/D switch should be played with the old O/D.

as a reminder, playing an offense does not increase the IQ growth rate, so there is no consideration there.
