This guy went in the 18th round... Topic

Discussion in our league on whether or not he should have been seen and how a guy like this drops to the 18th round. I manually do my draft board and I couldn't "see" this player at all. The guy who drafted him....never saw his ratings prior to signing him because he wasn't scouted well enough. Anyone else have this in any of their leagues?

Happens from time to time. I got Gerald Malone in the 18th round and I've had a few other guys who were fringe major leaguers around that territory as well. I treat any draft pick whose ratings I can't see as a lottery ticket—there's at least some chance, however slim, that (a) nobody else saw him and (b) he's actually good. Always worth the slot signing bonus imo.

Welcome to Tony Poujos. The second best Puljos to be drafted after the 10th round.

For me it makes more sense for HS guys then College guys because if a kid hits 500 homeruns or has an ERA below 1 its meaningless. They could be the next Roger Clemens or they could be just another AAAA player. In college I think you have a slightly better idea of how a kid is going to pan out, playing against the best 20-24 year olds in the county.

That being said, I kind of like when little surprises like that pop up. Makes the game seem more realistic. I guess no one considered Central Community College Columbus campus a legitimate school to scout that year.

Peters must be tired of peeing in a cup from a the steroid accusations.

I love seeing these threads because here is the all time GOAT pick

Player Profile: Hector Peters - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports

20th round pick. I've always wondered if there's a chance nobody sees a guy is there a chance only 1 team sees a guy? Like If I picked 34th could I theoretically be the only team to see Peters?

I'm reasonably confident that's the case. First, it just logically makes sense—if guys fall to the 18th round because nobody sees them, then one step above nobody seeing them is one person seeing them. Second, I don't know any other way to explain one of my recent first-round picks, who I got at #28 with a pre-draft projected overall rating of 89. You'd think there's no way a guy like that falls that far if other people know he's there. Plus, he has a ridiculous name that drew a few comments after (but not before) the draft.

Still don't get how Peters could go in 20th round, even if only one owner sees him. That means he had to be at best 20th on that owner's draft board, and that's only possible if other owners didn't have any of the 19 players rated higher, which is nearly impossible given how high his ratings are. It's not like he was a DITR who started with low ratings and got a huge bump.

Seems the only way possible is if he wasn't scouted by anyone and was sitting far down on the one owner's board.

I just don't get how these types of guys go unseen. What is the game logic behind that? The Mike Piazza syndrome? I thought that is what DITR was kind of for. And then how does the game engine determine which team gets the hidden player?

I like the ??? Guys turning into studs every now and then, but I do feel it penalizes people who invest in COL scouting. If you have 20 in College, you won’t be able to see any ??? On your board. So your best bet is to try and mess with your draft settings to get the system to draft ??? Guys (it doesn’t always work lol).

Easy fix is let me see my entire board. Everybody I have scoured and every ???

When I've run 20/20 col/hs budgets I miss about ~10% of 1st round players. If that's even close to accurate for the entire player pool, and if at least 10 teams run $20M for HS and another 10 teams for Col, you'd think this just wouldn't happen. Odds would be 1 in every 10 billion players?? (maybe my math is off) 10%*10 teams.

If there's 1,000 players in a draft, then it should only happen once every 10 million drafts? My assumptions might be off and math wasn't my strong suit so feel free to poke holes in this. But even if my assumptions are off by quite a bit, it still seems more likely this is a glitch and shouldn't be happening this frequently.

This is the ultimate draft by someone else in my world. With the 20th and 21st rounds of the SAME draft !!!!!!
Parque is a projected 87 overall and Moore is projected 93 overall, absolutely insane!

Yeah... if I had a top 5 pick in that draft and whiffed on a high impact player I'd probably leave the world after seeing something like that.
