Is there anything to do with excess budget towards the end of the season? I've got $5mm in player payroll not used. Is there anything owners do with this money, other than transfer it into prospect budget? Not gonna get anything too good in IFA with $2mm so wondering what guys do, like can it be used as part of bonus for signing a guy to a long-term deal? (I don't think it works that way)

Check with other owners in your World because some private Worlds have rules against late season use of cash (i.e. trading cash for players, signing unsigned free agents from the pool where the player may have retired and been eligible for the Hof the following season, etc.).

One thing you can do is locate intl guys that will be fine minor league filler for the next four to five seasons or sign your late round draft picks if you haven't already. Sign free agents that can fill any minor league injury voids you may have during any minor league playoffs.

It's considered good form in some worlds to use leftover budget to sign all your draft picks and any IFAs you can so that the minor league player pool remains well stocked. Having good minor league filler has fringe benefits as well.

1) The $$ can't be used as bonus for re-signing contracts for next season.
2) Agree with tlowster about signing your future minor league filler.
3) Sometimes guys who are Type A compensation go unsigned all season (rare; most get signed after the draft list drops). So you can sign them, hope they (a) generate type B compensation the following year for you and (b) that once there's no type A draft pick compensation attached, someone else will sign them. But this is very rare.
4) Mostly, you just watch that cash swirl down the drain.
