Call up/prospect question Topic

My team is in the thick of the playoff hunt but has been decimated by injuries at the CF/2B position. Considering calling up my top prospect who's only 19 but is probably now my best option to replace them for the rest of the season (about 30 games). Would it be crazy to call up my top prospect for the stretch run? Don't think he'd start the year in the majors next year as he could really use more development time. But considering using this break glass in case of emergency option since I have a division foe breathing down my neck.

What would the repercussions be of calling up my 19 top prospect? Would it hurt his development? And what would the contract ramifications be if say I left him up in the majors for the rest of this season but was planning on having him in the minors next year?

As long as you put him in the starting line-up, it won't hurt his development at all. But you don't want him sitting on the bench.

Contract-wise, if you call him up, you'll need to put him on the 40 man roster. That starts his clock, so you will be sacrificing how long you can control him before he can become a free agent. Personally, I would try to find other solutions before I brought him up at such a young age.

Gotcha. Not worth starting his clock so I'd agree
