1st Pick in Draft - A or B? Topic

I have the first pick in Amateur Draft. 2 players to choose from, a CF and a P...was thinking the CF is the slam-dunk pick, but now not so sure. The P isn't as good overall, but the P has a makeup of 94 and the CF has 79, so even tho the CF projects higher, he isn't as likely to get all the way there.

And, smaller issue, the P is "looking to sign" while CF is "looking to be drafted in 1st round." I don't think there is much of a chance he won't sign, but even if it's 5% is that enough to scare you off?

Generally, I think of stud pitchers as a more scarce resource than bats because you need more of them, so one more little "plus" for taking the P.

Lastly, while the CFs speed is fine for CF, his glove only projects to 68. I'm normally an offense-over-defense GM.

All that said, the CF still looks appetizing. Which player would you take?

Take the pitcher.

Take the pitcher. If his patience is really that high you can keep him forever.

Though I'd be curios if these players are college or HS and what your scouting was.

Agreed with the previous. Take the pitcher. If the batter was a CF it might be close, but sticking him in the corners makes him a good bat for those positions, not a stellar one.

The P1 makes me a little nervous about the pitchers projections but those numbers across the board are HOF quality

It's the pitcher 100 times out of 100.

fwiw, both prospects are 18 years old, and both scouting budgets - HS and College - are $12mm

Eeps. Fair warning, with 12 million scouting for HS kids these projections could change by 20-30 points. Its a bit of buyer beware. In a situation like this, if you have a feeling about one over the other it might be the better way to go.

If the projections were what their stats are going to be, the pitcher is a top choice.

Ooosh. 12 million means your projections are not at all accurate. Of course, they're not accurate for ANY of the players you're looking at, so if these two look like the best you have to put your faith in that they are.

As everyone has said, the pitcher is the call. On top of the available evidence, if I have to swing and miss on a player I'd rather hope for the best with an SP. Hate to fail hard on a position player.

With that amount in budgeting, chances are regardless of who you pick, you'll be disappointed. But I'd take the P.

12 out of 20 is 60% Id say that is about how accurate you can count on those ratings being.
